Abstract

The paper presents a methodology for designing and experimentally testing a differentiated bank of tasks that combines applied cases and game mechanics. The bank is intended for highly motivated students of engineering programmes (illustrated by the enlarged group of specialities 10.00.00 «Information Security») and covers two fundamental courses – linear algebra and mathematical analysis. It is built on 15 cases, each unfolded into five levels of difficulty, from the reproductive to the creative one. The game component includes quizzes, debates, role-playing games, strategic simulations and the «Mathematical Design Bureau» contest. The selection of tasks for highly motivated students relies on several criteria: hidden interdisciplinary links, multiple solution paths, the need to justify the choice of a method, and reflection. The approbation was carried out in the 2025/2026 academic year with 112 students of the «Information Security» programme: the experimental group consisted of 27 highly motivated students who worked with the full bank along individual trajectories, while the control group of 85 students worked only with the basic levels of the cases without game elements. A statistically significant growth of algorithmic literacy, mathematical modelling skills and learning motivation was recorded, and the expert evaluation of the cases demonstrated the advantage of tasks created through collaboration between the teacher and the student group. The taxonomy is expected to be transferred to other fundamental disciplines.
