Abstract

The basic mathematical block of the first year in engineering and economics bachelor programmes is still organised around the internal logic of its own sections, whereas the federal state educational standards now in force oblige a graduate to solve professional problems by drawing both on mathematical apparatus and on modern software. The gap between the wording of a standard and the didactic shape of a single learning task is what this paper examines, and the aim is to derive the structure of such a task directly from the regulatory text. The material comprises six standards currently in force for the fields 01.03.02, 08.03.01, 09.03.01, 11.03.04, 13.03.02 and 38.03.01, which together contain 37 general professional competences. A single competence statement served as the unit of analysis; content analysis with three coding rules fixed in advance was combined with a criterion-based comparison of wordings and with the design of a set of 24 tasks. Mathematical apparatus is named in 9 statements, digital tools in 14 and the processing of results in 5, yet only two statements tie a mathematical operation to a software tool inside one requirement. A four-component task structure and a typology of four types, told apart by what is carried across the disciplinary boundary, follow from that distribution. Because the two requirements sit in separate competences, the link between a mathematical procedure and a professional quantity has to be built on purpose. Automatic agreement of units together with symbolic and numeric work kept in one Mathcad worksheet brings that link within reach of a first-year student, while the university digital environment supplies varied input quantities and a common form of reporting.
