Formation of foreign language lexical competencies based on the analysis of Anglicisms in the media space (based on the material of modern Russian-language electronic media of the Chechen Republic)

Abstract

In the era of globalization, traditional methods of language education often fail to take into account the influence of the media on vocabulary, which leads to a simplified understanding of borrowings and a decrease in students' motivation to master bilingual competence. This is especially relevant for regions such as the Chechen Republic, where Russian-language media are saturated with Anglicisms. The study focuses on the formation of foreign language lexical competencies through the analysis of Anglicisms in the electronic media of the republic, with the aim of developing pedagogical strategies for the development of these skills. The purpose is to identify the semantic and functional features of Anglicisms for their integration into lessons that promote cultural adaptation and communicative skills. The objectives include an analysis of the factors of their use (politics, IT, sports, fashion), a comparison with Russian equivalents and recommendations for methodological work in which students master terms such as «selfie» or «deadline» through projects. The research methods combine content analysis of media texts (from «Vesti CR», «TSN»), semantic analysis of adaptation and a pedagogical experiment (n=150 students), in which strategies of gradual adaptation and contextual immersion were applied. The pedagogical focus is implemented through surveys and assignments that assess perception and assimilation. The results revealed a high frequency of Anglicisms in IT («streaming», «hashtag»), fashion («oversize», «hendi-made») and sports («coach», «set»), with a tendency towards spelling variability. Anglicisms fill lacunae, enriching the vocabulary, but require adaptation in order to avoid confusion. The discussion emphasizes their pedagogical value: the analysis develops lexical competence, where students form critical thinking and cultural awareness through media texts. It is recommended for multilingual classes, increasing motivation and readiness for global communication.
