Transfer of English-language legal texts as a separate type of translation

Abstract

The article is devoted to the actual problem of legal translation as a separate type of translation. In the context of the development of globalization and the strengthening of intercultural relations, the language of law is becoming particularly relevant. Thus, the translation of legal texts plays an essential role in modern processes. In the course of studying the literature and scientific works of modern scientists, we found out that translation is understood as an object of secondary communicative activity, which includes a variable recording of the text of one language into another language, carried out by the translator in order to create a communicatively equivalent text. Legal translation is a highly specialized type of text translation related to the field of law and reproducing legal content. The specifics of translating legal texts are based on differences in the legal systems of different countries, which indicates the need for a specialist to know the cultural characteristics of the target language. Regardless of the content, all legal texts are fairly homogeneous in their typological features. The features of legal texts include the presence of a large number of legal terms that are rigidly tied to the legal system, which has its own characteristics due to the differences in the legal systems of different countries. In addition to cultural peculiarities and the presence of a large number of terms, legal translation is characterized by rich stylistic features. Thus, it was found that legal texts are similar to scientific texts and instruction texts, performing both cognitive and installation functions. The syntax of a legal text is distinguished by the completeness of its structures and the variety of tools used to form logical connections. The peculiarities of translating legal texts include clerical cliches, archaic vocabulary, the predominance of verb forms of the present tense, as well as complex syntax, which, despite its complexity, is focused on maximum accuracy and unambiguity of statements.
