Abstract

The relevance of the research is due to the need to improve the effectiveness of teaching English to students of pedagogical specialties in the context of globalization and internationalization of education. The purpose of the work is to theoretically substantiate and experimentally verify the methodology of using authentic materials in the process of teaching English to future teachers. The methodological basis consists of competence-based, communicative and socio-cultural approaches. The empirical study was conducted in the form of a pedagogical experiment on a sample of 50 students of 2-3 courses of pedagogical specialties. Experimental training was based on a specially developed set of authentic materials, including texts, audio and video recordings, selected according to criteria for meeting the communicative needs and cognitive interests of students. The results of the final testing and questionnaire showed that the systematic use of authentic materials contributes to: 1) to increase the motivation of students to learn the language; 2) the development of their communicative competence; 3) the formation of socio-cultural awareness; 4) the activation of independent educational and cognitive activities. The data obtained allow us to recommend a wider introduction of authentic materials into the practice of teaching English in pedagogical universities. The prospects for further research are related to the development of methodological models for the use of authentic Internet and social media resources in professionally oriented foreign language teaching.
