Abstract

This article explores the application of the theory of directed flow of motivation in the social adaptation process of secondary school students. The relevance of the study is due to the need to overcome the limitations of traditional approaches to socialization, which focus on the mechanical assimilation of social norms and rules, but do not develop students' critical thinking, social reflection, or intercultural competence. Within the research framework, the authors analyze key problems in contemporary social adaptation in the school environment: standardized socialization methodologies, lack of motivation to participate in social processes, absence of clear social development objectives, and ineffective feedback. In the Methods section, the integration of the theory of directed flow of motivation is presented, incorporating four dimensions: social goal orientation, participant awareness of social interaction, positive emotional state, and the structured achievement of social sub-goals. A model is proposed that combines the establishment of long-term social goals (for example, developing intercultural communication skills and social leadership) with short-term tasks (such as forming social skills and analyzing social situations). The results demonstrate that applying the theory contributes to increased student social autonomy, reduced social anxiety, and the formation of lasting motivation for social participation. The implementation of individual social development plans, varied forms of social interaction, and dialogic feedback improved the quality of social adaptation and student engagement in the school community. In the Discussion, it is emphasized that a clear social development trajectory, emotional support, and the internalization of social skills as habits help bridge the gap between formal learning of social norms and their practical application. The authors also note the need for further adaptation of the theory to the diverse levels of student needs and the digitalization of social processes in the educational environment.
