Abstract

The article is devoted to the actual problem of managing the independent work of students in the study of phraseological units of the English language at the university. The purpose of the study is to develop an effective model for organizing independent work of students aimed at improving the level of proficiency in phraseological units of the English language. The following methods were used in the work: theoretical analysis of scientific literature, pedagogical observation, testing, questionnaires, statistical data processing. The research material was 150 phraseological units selected from authentic sources. The experimental work was carried out on the basis of the Moscow State Linguistic University, 60 2nd year students of the English Language Faculty took part in it. As a result of the research, a model for managing students' independent work was developed and tested, including three stages: preparatory, basic and final. At the preparatory stage, the selection of phraseological units was carried out, educational materials and controls were developed. The main stage involved the organization of classroom and extracurricular independent work of students using interactive teaching methods (project method, case method, role-playing games). At the final stage, the effectiveness of the developed model was evaluated through final testing and student questionnaires. The results of the experiment showed that the implementation of the developed model contributed to an increase in the level of students' proficiency in phraseological units of the English language. The average score in the experimental group increased by 28% (from 67 to 86 points out of 100). In addition, the motivation of students to study phraseology has increased, as evidenced by the data of the survey: 92% of respondents noted that doing independent work using the proposed model increased their interest in this topic. Thus, the developed model of independent work management can be recommended for implementation in the process of teaching English at a university in order to improve the phraseological competence of students. Further research may be aimed at adapting the proposed model to other aspects of learning a foreign language.
