Abstract

The growing weight of environmental well-being as a national development goal foregrounds the task of preparing a teacher able not only to transmit environmental knowledge but also to display stable patterns of nature-congruent conduct. A gap persists between students' declared environmental attitudes and their actual everyday practices, one that classroom instruction overcomes only weakly. The study aims to construct a structural-functional model for forming the ecologically responsible behavior of pedagogical university students through volunteer activity. It was carried out by means of conceptual-categorial analysis, systematization, classification, content analysis of the educational regulatory framework, and structural-functional modeling. The content of ecologically responsible behavior is specified as an integrative personal quality uniting cognitive, motivational-axiological, and activity-practical components. The proposed model combines target, theoretical-methodological, content-meaningful, organizational-technological, criterion-evaluative, and resultative blocks, and a correspondence is established between forms of environmental volunteering and the components they predominantly form. Pedagogical conditions for the model's effectiveness are identified, the key one being the dual subject position of the prospective teacher, who simultaneously masters conservation practice and designs it for learners. Environmental responsibility acquires behavioral stability mainly in situations of real conservation action followed by reflection, rather than through the isolated accumulation of environmental awareness, which shifts the design emphasis from the transmission of knowledge to the organization of experience of responsible participation.
