Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the pedagogical possibilities of integrating and applying philatelic materials in the educational process of mastering the Fundamentals of Military Training discipline as an effective tool for the patriotic education of youth in higher school. The article demonstrates how philatelic materials were employed to nurture military-patriotic values in the younger generation through the Fundamentals of Military Training course in Soviet times. The chronicle of the All-Army Philatelic Exhibitions spanning 1971 to 1990 is cited as a telling example, illustrating the broad-scale educational activity conducted among the student youth by means of philatelic items produced for these exhibitions (including stamps, postcards, envelopes, and maximum cards). These items are then used in sessions devoted to the Armed Forces of the USSR theme as part of the Fundamentals of Military Training course. The didactic application of philatelic and printed materials in practical military training sessions, combined with involving students in research activities, is considered an example of methodological innovation. This instructional practice in the Fundamentals of Military Training course encourages the transition from passive knowledge acquisition to active investigation, fostering a meaningful interpretation of military history through patriotic values.
