Abstract

The paper examines the integration of generative artificial intelligence into teaching the translation of occasionalisms and neologisms using cultural and intellectual podcasts as authentic learning material. The study is motivated by the rapid expansion of digitally mediated communication, the continuous evolution of English vocabulary, and the growing demand for translators capable of combining linguistic, cultural, creative, and technological competencies. The research aims to develop and experimentally validate a pedagogical framework that integrates traditional translation training with the educational potential of large language models. The methodology combines linguostylistic, contextual, and comparative translation analysis with a pedagogical experiment, expert assessment of translation quality, and statistical verification of the findings using Student's t-test for independent samples. The empirical material consists of episodes from the British cultural podcast Unspeakable, characterized by a high frequency of occasionalisms, neologisms, metaphorical expressions, and culturally specific lexical units. The proposed instructional model includes theoretical analysis, independent translation, prompt-based interaction with generative AI systems, critical comparison of human- and AI-generated translations, and creative translation projects. The experimental results demonstrate statistically significant improvements in semantic accuracy, preservation of pragmatic and stylistic effects, translation speed, and the production of original translation solutions among students trained with AI-supported methodology compared with those receiving conventional instruction (p < 0.01). The findings indicate that generative AI can substantially enhance translator education when employed as a pedagogical support tool rather than a substitute for human expertise. The study also emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, digital literacy, and responsible AI use in contemporary translator training.
