Abstract

The article examines the basics of architectural design as an educational tool for the comprehensive personal development of adolescents. The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical justification for the influence of architectural design activity on cognitive, creative, practical, personal, socio-communicative and value-based development. The research tasks include clarifying the meaning of basic architectural design in the context of school and supplementary education, identifying its interdisciplinary structure, analysing studies on spatial thinking and design culture, and describing the pedagogical conditions under which architectural tasks become developmental rather than decorative. The article shows that work with a design idea, sketch, scale, model, material and functional constraints helps adolescents transform abstract knowledge into a visible and discussable product. Such activity develops the ability to identify a problem, propose several solutions, justify a choice, consider the needs of users and evaluate the quality of the environment being created. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using its conclusions in elective courses, supplementary education modules, career guidance programmes and interdisciplinary school projects aimed at developing spatial thinking, creativity, responsibility and soft skills.
