Abstract

In the context of global environmental challenges, climate change, and biodiversity loss, environmental education for younger school-age children becomes particularly relevant. Early formation of the foundations of ecological culture contributes to the development in children of a responsible attitude towards nature, an awareness of the value of the surrounding world, as well as the formation of practical skills of environmentally competent behavior necessary for the sustainable development of society. This article presents a study of the level of environmental education of primary schoolchildren, conducted as part of experimental work. The study was carried out with 4th-grade students (aged 10-11) on the basis of the Municipal Educational Institution «Secondary School № 7 named after Kobelyatsky» in the settlement of Chulman, Neryungrinsky District. The work included three stages: initial diagnostics, a formative stage, and final diagnostics. The reliability of the data obtained from the final diagnostics was confirmed by statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon T-test. Based on the study and analysis of pedagogical experience and methodological materials, an extracurricular activity program «Earth – My Home» was developed and tested during the formative stage. This program is aimed at fostering ecological culture and environmental education in younger school-age children.
