Abstract

This study is devoted to the analysis of the impact of extracurricular sports activities on the formation of professional competencies of students of physical education universities in China. A comprehensive empirical study was conducted on the basis of Henan Sports University using quantitative data analysis methods. The results indicate a high degree of student involvement (85%) in extracurricular sports activities, with sports competitions (28%) and sports clubs (26%) being the most popular. There is a statistically significant correlation between participation in extracurricular activities and the development of key professional competencies, in particular teamwork skills (28%), communication skills (24%) and leadership (22%). The study identified a number of factors that hinder students' active participation, including lack of time (46%) and insufficient information support (19%). Based on the data obtained, recommendations have been developed to optimize the system of extracurricular activities aimed at improving the effectiveness of the formation of students' professional competencies. The results obtained expand the theoretical understanding of the role of extracurricular activities in the professional development of future specialists in the field of physical culture and sports, and are also of practical importance for improving the educational process in sports universities in China.
