Abstract

The «Basic Russian» course is part of the core curriculum for Russian language majors. It acts as a connecting link between the initial learning stage and advanced specialized study, directly shaping students' language competencies and raising their overall academic level. As set out in the Russian Language program, the course builds a solid language foundation that will underpin students' professional growth. The course is systematically designed and rests on sound teaching methods. Through specially crafted exercises, students gradually master the five core skills – listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. They actively expand their vocabulary, practice grammar, and broaden their cultural horizons. The result is a strong foundation for studying specialized subjects and using the language fluently in practice. The course structure combines fundamental and comprehensive sections using classical pedagogical methods. This approach covers a broad range of topics that meet the needs of contemporary society and the logic of the learning process. The program goes beyond standard linguistics: students learn about Russia's historical and geographical context and study applied fields such as business and tourism. Various real-life situations are examined thoroughly, breaking down the barriers between language learning and practical use. This structure effectively sparks students' interest, prevents the monotony that can come with language study, provides real scenarios for application, helps shift from «language acquisition» to «active language use», and makes their language skills more flexible and practical. The teaching process consistently puts into practice the key concept of «integrating language learning with strengthening cultural confidence». The finest traditions of Chinese culture are organically woven into all aspects of Russian language instruction. Interactive activities – classroom discussions of current issues and project-based learning – allow students to actively use Russian to describe Chinese realities and convey the unique charm of China's finest cultural traditions. This helps students improve their speaking skills and critical thinking, develop a deeper sense of cultural identity and love for their native culture, build intercultural communication skills, and understand the importance of spreading cultural values. This teaching model ensures that the core goals of language education are achieved while also fulfilling the value-driven objectives of cultural cultivation. The outcome is well-rounded Russian language specialists with strong language competencies, cultural literacy, and a broad international outlook.
