Abstract

As digital ecosystems expand, enterprises are quietly rewriting the blueprints of internal authority. Algorithms capable of parsing unthinkable volumes of corporate data have begun to erode the pyramidal hierarchies that once defined twentieth-century firms. Drawing on a mixed-methods enquiry - survey responses from 387 medium and large companies plus longitudinal case evidence from 12 ongoing digital transformations this paper analyses how artificial-intelligence-enabled smart management is accelerating the shift toward networked organizational forms. Quantitative modelling shows that, relative to firms clinging to classical chains of command, those embracing Al-supported workflows register 37% stronger adaptability to sudden market swings and record a 42% jump in cross-functional collaboration. Four shared design logics underpin successful network formation: tightly woven digital infrastructure, orchestrated knowledge flows, delegated decision protocols and elastic governance schemes. Regression and structural-equation results reveal that executive commitment $(r=0.78)$, broad digital-literacy initiatives $(r=0.65)$ and iterative roll-out strategies $(r=0.72)$ together explain the lion's share of variance in transformation success. The study enriches organization theory by integrating sociotechnical perspectives with Al scholarship, and it equips practitioners with context-sensitive guidelines for reconciling technological boldness with human considerations during structural upheaval.
