<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The formation of students' rhetorical skills in the process of learning English is an urgent problem of modern linguodidactics, requiring the development of effective methodological approaches. The research is aimed at the theoretical substantiation and practical implementation of the text-centric approach as a basis for the development of discursive competence and rhetorical skills of high school students. The methodological basis consisted of the analysis of scientific and methodological literature, the systematization of pedagogical experience, the content analysis of authentic texts of various genres and the development of a typology of exercises. The results of the study demonstrate the high efficiency of integrating work with artistic, journalistic and popular science texts into a single system for the formation of rhetorical competencies. The developed four-component exercise system includes preparatory tasks for motivation and forecasting, training exercises for developing speech techniques, creative tasks for producing your own texts, and analytical exercises for developing critical thinking. The practical significance of the research lies in the creation of a comprehensive methodology for working with authentic texts aimed at the systematic development of communicative competence through the formation of rhetorical skills. The theoretical value of the work is determined by substantiating the role of the text-centric approach in the modern system of language education and identifying the principles of integrating literary works into the process of developing students' discursive skills.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><title>Keywords</title><kwd>textocentric approach</kwd><kwd>rhetorical skills</kwd><kwd>discursive competence</kwd><kwd>authentic texts</kwd><kwd>communicative competence</kwd><kwd>methods of teaching English</kwd><kwd>linguodidactics</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><title>Ключевые слова</title><kwd>текстоцентрический подход</kwd><kwd>риторические умения</kwd><kwd>дискурсивная компетенция</kwd><kwd>аутентичные тексты</kwd><kwd>коммуникативная компетенция</kwd><kwd>методика преподавания английского языка</kwd><kwd>лингводидактика</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group>
