<trans-abstract xml:lang="en">This article examines the pedagogical challenges and possibilities involved in teaching Southern American literature in the university classroom, with particular attention to the intersecting categories of race, class, and gender as they appear in the fiction of William Faulkner and Eudora Welty alongside selected contemporary Southern voices. Rather than treating these canonical and contemporary texts as isolated objects of analysis, the study situates them within a broader pedagogical framework that considers how literary instruction can address historical violence, social stratification, and gendered experience without reducing complex narratives to schematic categories. Drawing on approaches from literary pedagogy, postcolonial criticism, and the study of American Southern literature, the article argues that teaching the South requires a sustained engagement with its internal contradictions: the literary tradition simultaneously preserves and subverts the social hierarchies it represents. Attention is given to specific classroom practices, including comparative close reading, student-led discussion, and critical writing assignments, through which students may develop nuanced historical and ethical awareness. The article contributes to current discussions of canon revision and inclusive pedagogy by demonstrating that the Southern literary tradition, when taught critically, offers a productive site for examining the persistence of structural inequality in American culture.</trans-abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This article examines the pedagogical challenges and possibilities involved in teaching Southern American literature in the university classroom, with particular attention to the intersecting categories of race, class, and gender as they appear in the fiction of William Faulkner and Eudora Welty alongside selected contemporary Southern voices.
